Marinated millet, corn kernel salad, stuffed mushrooms, and creamy saffron-infused risotto are some of the dishes on the menu for the State dinner being hosted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House’s South Lawn. However, the highlight of the menu is a Rs 6000 wine with an India link. The wine, called PATEL Red Blend 2019, will be served at dinner and is described as bright, punchy, and full of character. It is a Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend that offers tons of appeal. The owner of PATEL Wines, Raj Patel, was born in Gujarat and settled in Northern California. He attended the University of California, Davis, where his internship at Robert Mondavi Winery sparked his interest in fine wine. After years of research and cultivating relationships with growers, Raj was able to add limited-production wines to the brand. The current total production of PATEL Wines is around 1,000 cases and sells out each year.
