Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at a luncheon hosted by US Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the State Department, stated that India and the US have embarked on a ‘beautiful journey’ of collaboration in the fields of defence and emerging technologies. Modi expressed his gratitude towards the Biden administration and mentioned that the sweet melody of the India-US relationship is composed of people-to-people relations. He emphasized the progress made by both countries in the frameworks of Quad and I2U2.
The Quad, consisting of India, Australia, Japan, and the United States, focuses on key challenges in the Indo-Pacific region such as climate change, infrastructure, and connectivity. On the other hand, I2U2 stands for India, Israel, the UAE, and the US, and aims to discuss common areas of mutual interest and strengthen the economic partnership in trade and investment.
Modi also praised US Vice President Kamala Harris and her parents for their incredible contribution to strengthening the strategic partnership between India and the US. He mentioned that during his visit to the US in 2014, President Biden, who was in the US State Department at the time, defined the India-US friendship as “a promise over the horizon.” Over the past nine years, both countries have progressed in the areas of defence, emerging technologies, and trade. Modi expressed his enthusiasm about elevating cooperation in futuristic sectors.
During his visit to the US, PM Modi had the honor of addressing the joint session of the US Congress twice, becoming the first Indian leader to do so. President Biden also hosted a state dinner in his honor, which was attended by notable figures such as Mukesh Ambani, Sunder Pichai, and Tim Cook.
The India-US partnership is considered one of the most significant of the 21st century. The leaders of both countries are committed to shaping the future by working together on various aspects, including space, defence, emerging technology, and supply chains. This visit by PM Modi is expected to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations.
