California-based HP is seeking to ramp up manufacturing in India, both in terms of volume and the production of new items. The company has been manufacturing in India for a long time and has invested to increase the capacity of products produced in the country. HP currently manufactures laptop models such as EliteBooks, ProBooks, and G8 series notebooks, as well as keyboards and mice in India.
The Indian government has recently approved a Rs 17,000 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the IT hardware segment. This scheme provides incentives to eligible manufacturers for the production of items such as laptops, tablets, PCs, servers, and ultra-small form factor devices. HP does not have a specific investment ceiling and is prepared to make significant investments to ensure customer satisfaction in India.
Vickram Bedi, Senior Director (Personal Systems), HP India, stated that the company is ready for huge investments if it leads to customer satisfaction in India. Additionally, HP plans to increase the number of Omen Playgrounds, its gaming community for PC Gamers, from 12 to 40 in different parts of the country.
The Indian government’s initiatives to attract manufacturers and incentivize local production are attracting global companies like HP. By increasing manufacturing in India, HP is able to cater to the growing demand in the country and take advantage of the incentives provided by the government. This expansion of local manufacturing not only boosts the Indian economy but also creates job opportunities and enhances the country’s position as a manufacturing hub in Asia.
