Kieron Pollard, the star all-rounder from Mumbai Indians, is all set to make a comeback on the cricket field. After retiring from the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022, Pollard has been named as the captain of MI New York for the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC) in 2023.
Having played for Mumbai Indians for 13 seasons, Pollard played a pivotal role in their five IPL titles. His aggressive batting and exceptional fielding skills made him a hot pick at the 2010 IPL auction. After impressive performances in the 2009 Champions League Twenty20 and the Big Bash, Pollard was a subject of aggressive bidding between Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Mumbai Indians eventually won the ‘silent-tiebreaker’ and Pollard became an integral part of their team.
Although Pollard retired from the IPL, his love for the game and his thirst for competition brought him back to the field. He will now lead the MI New York team in the first edition of Major League Cricket. Alongside Pollard, the team will also feature other international cricketers like Rashid Khan, Nicholas Pooran, Trent Boult, Tim David, Jason Behrendorff, Dewald Brevis, Kagiso Rabada, and David Wiese. The team will be coached by Robin Peterson, with Lasith Malinga as the bowling coach, J Arunkumar as the batting coach, and James Pamment as the fielding coach.
