Congress MP Manish Tewari on Friday strongly objected to the statement made by US ambassador Eric Garcetti on Manipur. Tewari expressed doubts about Garcetti’s understanding of the torturous history of bilateral ties between India and the US and India’s sensitivity about interference, perceived or real, in its internal affairs. Garcetti reportedly said that the violence and killings in Manipur are a matter of ‘human concern’ and that the US is ‘ready to assist’ India if asked. Ethnic violence in Manipur has claimed over 100 lives since May 3.
