Vivek Agnihotri Takes an Indirect Dig at Prabhas Starrer Salaar

Filmmaker Prashanth Neel recently unveiled the highly anticipated teaser of his upcoming film Salaar, featuring Prabhas in the lead role. The teaser has generated a lot of buzz among fans and movie enthusiasts. Along with the teaser, the makers also announced the release date of Salaar, which is set for September 28th. Interestingly, this is the same release date for filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming film, The Vaccine War, leading to a clash at the box office.

Amidst the clash, Vivek Agnihotri took to Twitter to express his opinion on the portrayal of violence in cinema and how it is often glorified as talent. He stated, ‘People aren’t born violent. Your children’s minds are conditioned by glamourising violence in popular literature, cinema, and politics by industry leaders who should actually be inspiring young minds for peace. In such a violent world, the only solution is creative consciousness.’

In another tweet, Vivek responded to a user on Twitter, highlighting the trends in the film industry. He wrote, ‘Now glamourising extreme violence in cinema is also considered talent. Promoting nonsense cinema is considered a bigger talent. Promoting a non-actor as the biggest star is considered the biggest talent. And assuming the audience is super-dumb is the mother of all talent.’

It is worth noting that Vivek Agnihotri and Prabhas have previously clashed at the box office with their respective films. The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek, turned out to be one of the highest-grossing low-budget films, while Prabhas’ film Radhe Shyam did not fare well and became one of the biggest duds of all time.

While the details of Salaar have been kept under wraps, the title gives a glimpse into the film’s underlying theme. The Vaccine War suggests that the movie will explore the journey of Indian bio-scientists and their groundbreaking indigenous vaccines. The film aims to honor the unwavering dedication of the medical community and scientists who stood tall during the unprecedented challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
