The twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have experienced 10 rain-related deaths this season, even though there has been a 24% rainfall deficiency in the coastal belt. Of the 10 deaths, seven were reported in Udupi district and three in Dakshina Kannada. The administration is investigating one more death in Dakshina Kannada district to determine if it was due to the natural calamity. The heavy rains have caused more than 100 houses to be partially damaged and have flooded over 50 hectares of paddy shoots in Udupi district. Additionally, the rainfall has led to damage to over 3,000 electricity poles, 75 transformers, and 125 km of power lines belonging to MESCOM. The road infrastructure in both districts has also been extensively damaged. Despite the average rainfall receding in Dakshina Kannada, Ajjavara in Sullia taluk received the highest amount of rain at 125.5 mm.
