Bihar Grand Alliance Government Rejects BJP’s Demand for Tejashwi Yadav’s Resignation

The Grand Alliance government in Patna has outrightly rejected the demand made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav after a chargesheet was filed against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The government has stated that no one can be deemed guilty until a competent court proves them guilty. Responding to the BJP’s outcry outside the assembly, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, the state’s parliamentary affairs minister, emphasized that a person cannot be considered guilty based solely on the submission of a chargesheet by an investigating agency. Choudhary also raised concerns about the alleged use of central investigating agencies like the CBI, Income Tax, and Enforcement Directorate by the BJP-led Centre against its political opponents.

Earlier in the day, BJP members created ruckus in both houses of the Bihar legislature, demanding the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on the grounds that he has been charged in the land-for-job scam that took place during his father Lalu Prasad’s tenure as rail minister. In the assembly, as soon as the house assembled, the leader of the opposition, Vijay Kumar Sinha, led the BJP members in demanding the resignation of the deputy CM. Disrupting the proceedings, they shouted slogans and attempted to lift reporters’ chairs before being stopped by marshals.

The BJP members created such a commotion that the speaker of the house adjourned proceedings within six minutes of starting. When the house reconvened for the post-lunch session, the BJP members once again demanded Tejashwi’s resignation amidst the chaos. Meanwhile, Vijay Kumar Choudhary tabled the Bihar Goods and Service Tax (Amendment) Bill-2023, which was passed through a voice vote.

As tensions continued to rise, Tejashwi entered the house, prompting the BJP members to repeat their demand for his resignation. The situation remained tense as the government faces mounting pressure from the opposition. For more details, read more.
