Omar Abdullah, Vice President of National Conference, has stated that the curbs on political leaders’ movement post-August 2019 cannot weaken their connection with the masses. The former state of Jammu & Kashmir was bifurcated into J&K and Ladakh in 2019 following the repeal of Article 370. Speaking at a party convention, Abdullah expressed concerns over the presence of militant activity in the region, pointing out that terrorism is now occurring in areas that were previously declared militancy-free. He also criticized the government’s failure to address the security situation and provide relief to the people. Abdullah mentioned a recruitment scam and the issue of land allocation for the homeless as examples of the government’s shortcomings. He also revealed that the National Conference is hopeful that the Supreme Court will provide justice in the upcoming hearings on Article 370 abrogation.
