Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday met the president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow. After the meeting, Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani said that they discussed the issues regarding the Uniform Civil Code. Earlier, AIUDF targeted the Centre over the Uniform Civil Code, saying the BJP was ‘raking up a new issue’ ahead of the assembly elections. Article 44 of the Indian Constitution proposes a common set of laws dealing with marriage, inheritance, adoption, and other matters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi supports the implementation of the UCC, while several Opposition leaders oppose it.
