Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala recently reviewed the current status of Assam Dairy Development Plan (ADDP), which is to be implemented by the newly-formed joint venture, North East Dairy and Foods Limited. During the visit, Rupala went to West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd. (WAMUL-Purabi Dairy) in Guwahati to review the activities currently being undertaken by WAMUL and its future plans. The union minister was also briefed about the progress made by WAMUL under the management leadership of NDDB.
During the presentation made by the Managing Director of WAMUL, Rupala emphasized the importance of silage-making activities and the utilization of paddy straw. He highlighted that activities such as manure management and beekeeping play important roles in enhancing the livelihood of dairy farmers by providing additional economic benefits. Rupala suggested expediting the procurement of slurry from the biogas project beneficiaries.
The review meeting also covered the commissioning works of the Purabi Dairy expansion project of WAMUL under APART or Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project.
The Assam Dairy Development Plan (ADDP) aims to boost dairy production and development in the state. It focuses on improving the productivity of dairy animals, providing technical support to dairy farmers, and creating better market linkages for dairy products. The plan also aims to promote dairy entrepreneurship and generate additional income opportunities for dairy farmers. The implementation of ADDP is expected to contribute to the overall economic growth of Assam and improve the socio-economic status of dairy farmers in the state.
