Ludhiana Man Falls Victim to Membership Scam by Fake Zomato Employee

A scam of fake Zomato employees offering bogus membership offers has surfaced in Ludhiana. The scam involves individuals posing as Zomato team members and persuading restaurant owners to purchase a membership that allegedly guarantees increased profit margins on Zomato orders. One restaurant owner, Rohit Kumar, fell victim to the scam when he was approached by the imposter, who introduced himself as Aditya and wore a Zomato-logoed t-shirt. Rohit was lured by the promise of enhanced order margins and made an online transaction to secure the fake membership. However, after realizing that he had been deceived and receiving no order-related benefits, Rohit promptly informed Zomato officials. His account led to the discovery that the imposter had even brandished an ID card bearing the name ‘Aditya Sharma’ to legitimize the ruse. Aditya Lattawa, the sales manager for Zomato’s Ludhiana branch, confirmed their awareness of the situation and disclosed that multiple similar complaints had surfaced. The matter has been reported to the Ludhiana Police’s cyber cell, and an investigation is underway. Aditya Lattawa further revealed that the accused had been identified and had a prior record of perpetrating similar frauds with another online food delivery company. This incident highlights the need for stringent measures to thwart such scams and protect businesses from falling victim to deception. Earlier this year, another Zomato scam surfaced in which delivery boys offered food at a reduced cost if paid in cash, instead of paying online. However, one customer chose not to take advantage of the loophole and reported it. Restaurant owners and customers are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
