The CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) announced on Saturday its plans to develop a grid-based mitigation strategy to address the persistent air pollution problem in Delhi. The proposal was introduced by S K Goyal, Chief Scientist and Head of CSIR-NEERI, during the India Clean Air Summit (ICAS) 2023 held in Bengaluru.

Air pollution has become a major concern in Delhi, known for its high levels of pollutants and harmful particulate matter. The city regularly experiences smog, which poses various health risks and leads to environmental degradation.

The grid-based strategy aims to combat air pollution by identifying pollution hotspots across the city and implementing targeted measures accordingly. The approach involves dividing the city into grids and analyzing the pollution levels in each grid. This data will help in understanding the sources of pollution and designing appropriate interventions.

CSIR-NEERI, with its expertise in environmental engineering and research, will take on the task of developing this strategy.
