Stargazers are in for a double treat this week as a rare blue supermoon lights up the night sky. This phenomenon occurs when there are two full moons in a month, with the second one being called the blue moon. The term supermoon refers to the moon being closer to Earth than usual, making it appear larger and brighter. This particular supermoon will be the closest to Earth this year, making it an especially captivating sight. Additionally, Saturn will be visible as a bright point near the moon, adding to the cosmic spectacle. According to Italian astronomer Gianluca Masi, the founder of the Virtual Telescope Project, this will be the last blue supermoon until 2037. Observers can enjoy this celestial event without the need for binoculars or telescopes – just their own eyes.
