The remnants of Hurricane Idalia are forecasted to regain strength and become a tropical storm again over the weekend as it approaches Bermuda. Previously a powerful Category 4 hurricane, Idalia had weakened to a post-tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. As of now, the storm is 45 miles southwest of Bermuda, and a tropical storm warning is in effect. Forecasters predict that Idalia will bring 3 to 5 inches of rainfall across Bermuda and hazardous surf conditions. Bermuda, a British territory in the North Atlantic, is about 900 miles east of South Carolina. Idalia is one of four named storm systems in the Atlantic, along with Hurricane Franklin, Tropical Storm Jose, and Gert. Franklin brought high winds to Bermuda and dangerous rip currents along the East Coast of the United States. Jose is likely to be absorbed by Franklin this weekend. Gert, a tropical depression, is expected to be absorbed by Idalia in the central Atlantic. Idalia made landfall in Florida as a Category 3 hurricane, causing damage to fishing villages and beach towns along the coast. However, the overall damage was not as severe as initially feared. President Joe Biden plans to visit the affected areas. Read more for the full article.
