Ahead of the G20 Summit in Delhi, Delhi Police’s metro unit has announced the closure of 39 metro stations along the VVIPS Route. The security measures are being taken to ensure the smooth functioning of the summit, which is scheduled to take place between September 8 and 10.
Delhi Police has identified the metro stations along the VVIPS Route that will be affected by the closures. These stations include Supreme Court, Khan Market, Kailash Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Janpath, and Bhikaji Cama Place, among others.
During the summit, the gates of these metro stations will be closed to the public. However, some stations will have specific gates closed, while others will face no entry and exit restrictions. For example, at Khan Market station, gates 1, 2, and 3 will be closed, while gate 4 will remain open for entry and exit.
Commuters at stations such as Aero City, Dhaula Kuan, South Campus, Dwarka Sec-21, Panchsheel Park, Chirag Delhi, Greater Kailash, Nehru Enclave, Kalkaji Mandir, Rajiv Chowk, Chawri Bazar, and Chandni Chowk will face no restrictions on entry and exit during the G20 Summit.
To facilitate transportation during the summit, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will also offer ‘Tourist smart cards’ for purchase. These cards can be bought through dedicated counters at 36 metro stations.
Delhi Police has been making extensive preparations for the summit. Personnel have been undergoing special training, and enhancements have been made to the city, such as the installation of fountains, ornamental plants, and strategically placed langur cutouts.
These closures and security measures are aimed at ensuring the safety and security of attendees and the smooth flow of traffic during the G20 Summit.
