Supreme Court dismisses PIL seeking steps to stop religious conversions
    Uncategorized

The Supreme Court of India has declined to hear a petition requesting the government to take action against fraudulent religious conversions in the country. The court, consisting of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, questioned its jurisdiction to issue a writ of mandamus to the government on this matter. The petitioner, Jerome Anto, claimed that Hindus and minors were being fraudulently converted to other religions. However, the court dismissed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL), categorizing it as a frivolous petition. The court expressed concern about the increase in such PILs and stated that PILs should not be used as a tool for unwarranted claims. The court advised the petitioner to seek remedy through appropriate legal channels if there is evidence of actual prosecution in such cases.
