North Korean leader Kim Jong-un arrived in Russia on Tuesday for talks with President Vladimir Putin. Kim traveled to Russia by private train, accompanied by top military and arms industry officials. The meeting between the two leaders is expected to focus on joint tourism, agricultural projects, and deeper economic ties. However, the summit has also raised concerns over closer military cooperation between Russia and the nuclear-armed North Korea. Washington has expressed its concerns over the potential trade of weapons between the two countries. South Korea, on the other hand, highlighted the significance of the summit given North Korea’s status as a sanctioned nation by the United Nations. The Kremlin, in response to the warnings from Washington, emphasized the importance of their bilateral relationship and downplayed the concerns. Despite the potential for tensions, both sides appear determined to strengthen and expand their ties.
