The Rupee fell 12 paise to settle at 83.15 against the U.S. dollar on September 15th. This drop was primarily due to rising crude oil prices and the strength of the greenback against other major currencies. Forex traders mentioned that a positive trend in the domestic markets limited the decline in the local unit. The Rupee opened at 83.02 against the U.S. dollar and fluctuated between 82.98 and 83.20 throughout the day. It finally settled at 83.15, down 12 paise from the previous close. The narrow trading range was attributed to dollar inflows from FTSE rebalancing and the nationalized bank’s purchase of the dollar on behalf of oil importers. Analysts expect the USD/INR to consolidate between 82.70 and 83.15 before the policy decisions of three major central banks next week. The dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback against a basket of six currencies, fell by 0.19% to 105.20. Meanwhile, Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, rose by 0.28% to $93.96 per barrel. On the domestic equity market front, the BSE Sensex closed 319.63 points higher, while the NSE Nifty advanced 89.25 points. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital market on Thursday, purchasing shares worth ₹294.69 crore.
