China exported a record volume of rice to the Ivory Coast last month after India implemented restrictions on its shipments of the grain. According to Chinese customs data compiled by Bloomberg, the Asian nation exported 45,000 tons of rice to the Ivory Coast in August, marking the highest monthly volume since at least September 2021. This follows India’s restrictions on rice exports, which created an opportunity for China to fill the gap in the market. The shipment of rice to the Ivory Coast was also the first in nine months. The Ivory Coast is an important market for rice imports and relies heavily on shipments from various countries to meet its domestic demand. China’s successful export performance in this market indicates its growing influence in the global rice trade. With India’s restrictions in place, China is expected to continue its rice exports to the Ivory Coast and potentially expand its market share further.
