Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema District Collector Himanshu Shukla has announced that the desilting work at the Rameswaram confluence point near his district is expected to be completed by early October. The confluence point is the location where three prominent irrigation drains – Vasalatippa major drain, lower Koushika major drain, and Panchanadi medium drain – merge into the Bay of Bengal. These drains are responsible for irrigating nearly 35,000 acres of land in the Amalapuram, Uppalaguptam, and Allavaram mandals. The desilting works have been taken up with a grant of ₹20 lakh. Over the past few years, the confluence point has been facing blockage due to the deposition of sand, leading to the submergence of the catchment area. The completion of the desilting work is expected to resolve this issue and ensure the smooth flow of the drains. To read more, click on the link above.
