WS Industries (India) Ltd. is planning the development of a modern logistics park and an integrated township at Sunguvarchatram in Sriperumbudur taluk. The company, formerly known for manufacturing porcelain insulators for electrical transmission lines, expanded into the infrastructure business and emerged as the successful bidder at an auction held by the Central Bank of India for 254 acres in Kancheepuram district. The company aims to develop a modern logistics park and an integrated township with the consultation of architects and the necessary infrastructure. The land is strategically located in the industrial hub of Sriperumbudur, Sunguvarchatram, and Oragadam, in close proximity to major multinational companies including Samsung, Foxconn, and Saint Gobain.
The acquisition of the land also comes with approximately 150 acres pre-approved by the State Government for light engineering and factory buildings. This feature is expected to meet the increasing warehousing demands of multinational companies. WS Industries has also entered into a joint venture with Bengaluru-based Prestige Group to develop IT/ITES parks on 6.53 acres of immovable property owned by the company in Porur, Chennai.
On the infrastructure side, WS Industries has already secured orders worth ₹753 crore for integrated stormwater drainage works, macro drain works, civil constructions, including an integrated bus terminal, and a multi-utility facility center pipeline projects.
Reporting on the financial front, the company achieved a net profit after tax of ₹20 crore for the year ended March 2023. This was a significant improvement from the loss of ₹59 crore recorded in the previous year. The revenue from operations also saw substantial growth, standing at ₹80 crore in the last fiscal year compared to nil in the previous year.
