The season’s total rainfall in Mumbai is inching closer to the 3,000mm-mark. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, between June 1 and September 29, the Santacruz observatory recorded 2,972.1mm of rainfall, just 28mm short of the season’s average. However, the total water stocks in the seven catchment area lakes stood at 99.3% of the required quantity, ensuring there is no shortage. On Thursday, the city witnessed thunderstorms and intense showers, resulting in flooding in some areas. The IMD has forecast thunder activity, along with lightning and gusty winds, for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar on Saturday.
