The Western Railway (WR) is planning to run two special trains, including a Vande Bharat Express, between Mumbai and Ahmedabad ahead of the India-Pakistan cricket World Cup match in Ahmedabad on October 14. This is the first time that the WR will run an inter-city train for a sports event. A fully air-conditioned train will depart from Mumbai around 10pm on October 13. The train is expected to reach Ahmedabad around 6am on match day. The Vande Bharat Express train is also expected to leave Mumbai on match day in the morning so that spectators can reach Ahmedabad well in time at the Narendra Modi stadium in Motera. The match is scheduled to begin at 2pm. While the timetable and halts are yet to be finalised, destinations like Surat, Vadodara, Anand, and Bharuch are expected to be on the route. Currently, regular Vande Bharat Express and Shatabdi Express trains operate between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
