Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is expected to surpass its capacity by 2032-33, leading to discussions on the need for a third airport. A proposal to reopen the old HAL Airport has gained traction, while a new airport between Bengaluru and Mysuru has also been suggested. The new airport aims to support the growth of cargo and development in the southern region. With Bengaluru’s air traffic growing exponentially, the lack of inter-city connectivity options has contributed to the strain on KIA. Upgrading existing runways and optimizing underutilized airports could offer alternative solutions.
