Fuel Running Out: 130 Preterm Babies at Risk in Gaza
    Uncategorized

A fuel shortage in Gaza is putting the lives of premature babies at risk. At al-Aqsa Hospital in the central Gaza Strip, the neonatal ward is dependent on a constant flow of electricity to power their incubators. Once the hospital’s generators run out of fuel, the lives of the babies in the ward are in jeopardy. Hospital director Iyad Abu Zahar fears that these babies, who are unable to breathe on their own, will not survive. Similar concerns are shared by doctors in other neonatal units across Gaza, where at least 130 premature babies are at grave risk. The dire situation deepens as almost 30 hospitals have been forced to shut down due to damage from Israeli strikes, leaving pregnant women in Gaza without access to essential healthcare. The World Health Organization reports that at least 50,000 pregnant women are affected. Despite the entry of aid convoys, Israel is blocking the supply of fuel, further exacerbating the crisis. Immediate action is needed to ensure the safety and well-being of these vulnerable babies and pregnant women.
