Shiv Sena Disqualification Case: Eknath Shinde Faction Questions Uddhav Thackeray’s Appointment as Party Chief

During the disqualification case of Shiv Sena MLAs before assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, the Eknath Shinde faction raised objections to Uddhav Thackeray’s appointment as party chief. They claimed that no party executive meeting had taken place on June 21, 2018, for this appointment. The Shinde faction requested more time to submit evidence, but the Uddhav faction opposed their plea. The next hearing is scheduled for November 2. The Eknath Shinde faction’s lawyer stated that an order regarding the submission of evidence will be given next week. The Uddhav faction argued that allowing the Shinde faction to present evidence would violate the Supreme Court (SC) order, which required only a prima facie enquiry by the Speaker. Earlier, Narwekar had grouped the petitions in the disqualification case into six groups based on the cause of action, with four groups filed by Sena (UBT) and two by the Shinde-led Sena.
