MPCB outlines steps to curb air pollution in Mumbai
    Uncategorized

If Mumbai’s air quality levels slip into the ‘very severe’ category, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has laid out a series of steps to curb pollution. These measures include halting all construction activity, imposing restrictions on heavy vehicles entering the city, shutting down polluting installations, and implementing an odd-even scheme for private vehicles. The state government has also issued similar guidelines, with some modifications. These include reducing the height of tin sheets around construction sites, banning garbage burning, and urging bakeries to shift to cleaner fuel. Pollution levels are considered ‘very severe’ if the Air Quality Index (AQI) shows PM2.5 and PM10 levels at certain thresholds for 48 hours. The MPCB has also set up an evaluation panel to assess the effectiveness of pollution control devices.
