Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao and several opposition leaders, including Congress’s Mallikarjun Kharge and Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi, received warnings from Apple about state-sponsored attacks on their phones. KTR, who belongs to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of targeting opposition leaders.
The warnings received by the politicians claimed to be from Apple, cautioning them about potential state-sponsored attacks on their devices. Among the leaders who received the warnings were KT Rama Rao, the Minister for IT and Industries in Telangana; Mallikarjun Kharge, a senior Congress leader; and Priyanka Chaturvedi, a spokesperson for the Shiv Sena party.
KTR, responding to the warnings, alleged that the BJP was behind these attempts to hack into the devices of opposition leaders. He claimed that this was not surprising, as the BJP has a track record of seeking to target its political opponents.
However, Apple clarified that it couldn’t attribute the threats to any specific attackers. The company stated that it takes the privacy and security of its users seriously, and it regularly sends alerts to users about potential security risks. It urged the recipients of the warnings to maintain strict security practices and be cautious while using their devices.
This incident has raised concerns about the vulnerability of politicians and the potential risks they face in a digital age. With advancements in technology, state-sponsored attacks and hacking attempts have become more sophisticated and pose a significant threat to privacy and security.
As political rivalries continue to intensify, it is crucial for leaders to prioritize cybersecurity and take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves against potential attacks. The responsibility also lies with technology companies to continually enhance their security measures to protect their users from such threats.
