The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches on Friday at 23 locations in Rajasthan related to alleged irregularities in the Jal Jeevan Mission project. The ED stated that individuals connected to the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) minister Mahesh Joshi and senior IAS officer Subodh Agarwal were targeted during the searches. The BJP MP Kirodi Lal Meena has claimed a scam of Rs 20,000 crore in the Jal Jeevan scheme in Rajasthan, where assembly polls are scheduled for November 25. The searches included the offices and residence of several PHED officials, including engineers and the office of Sanjay Agarwal, the Executive engineer and OSD to Mahesh Joshi. The property dealers Rameshwar Sharma and Alok Khandelwal were also targeted during the searches. The Congress party criticized the searches, accusing the ED, CBI, and the Income Tax department of being political tools for the BJP. Congress media head Pawan Khera raised concerns about the arrest of an ED official the previous day, claiming that those responsible for stopping corruption are themselves involved in bribery.
