The government on Saturday ordered a CID probe into the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) exam scam, which saw arrests of more than 30 accused including kingpin RD Patil. Eight FIRs were registered in connection with the scam (five in Yadgir, two in Kalaburagi city and one in Kalaburagi district) that surfaced last month. ADGP (crime) R Hitendra told STOI the case files from eight police stations were handed over to Criminal Investigation Department.
On October 28, KEA held competitive examinations across the state to fill vacant posts of first-division assistants in boards and corporations.
Cases of malpractices were registered on the day of the exam itself at Yadgir and Kalaburagi. An invigilator found three candidates in a government PU college using Bluetooth devices under the guise of hearing aids to tick the right answers. Later, eight more candidates were caught on similar charges.
