India’s Food Inflation Remains Above Comfort Level: Official

Food inflation in India remains above the ‘comfort’ level in New Delhi, according to a government official. While retail inflation in India eased to a four-month low of 4.87% in October, food inflation stood at 6.61%, little changed from 6.62% in September. The official expressed the desire for a broader moderation in food prices, as volatile vegetable, milk, and cereal prices have been key drivers of inflation in the country. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das also warned about the risks posed by a spike in food prices, stressing that India is vulnerable to recurring and overlapping food price shocks.
