Seminar on Reimagining Narratives of Alterity Held at Kondotty College

Government Arts and Science College, Kondotty, recently organized a seminar on ‘Reimagining the narratives of alterity: politics, aesthetics, and the contemporary’. The seminar, which took place on Thursday and Friday, aimed to explore the theme of alterity in various aspects. T.T. Sreekumar, a professor from English and Foreign Languages University in Hyderabad, delivered the keynote address at the seminar. His speech revolved around the topic of ‘Cultural encounters and alterity in Marx’s ethnological notebooks’. The event was sponsored by the Directorate of Collegiate Education.

One of the notable highlights of the seminar was a videoconferencing session with Shashi Tharoor, a Member of Parliament. Despite not being physically present at the venue, Tharoor made a significant contribution to the event by addressing the attendees remotely.

The inaugural session of the seminar was presided over by Abdul Latheef V., the Principal of the college. The English department head, Abida Farooqui, and seminar coordinator, Indulekha K.R., also delivered speeches during the event.

The seminar provided a platform for scholars, researchers, and students to discuss and explore the concept of alterity. By bringing together experts and enthusiasts from different fields, the event aimed to enhance the understanding of alterity’s political, aesthetic, and contemporary aspects.
