A record 1.25 million fans attended matches during the 13th edition of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which concluded on Sunday with Australia beating hosts India for their sixth title, according to the International Cricket Council (ICC). The October 5-November 19 event saw a total of 1,250,307 fans watching the matches from the stands, surpassing the previous mark set in the 2015 edition. Despite early matches having empty seats, overall spectator figures reached over a million with six games to go. The ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley, described the tournament as a ‘great success’ and highlighted the enduring appeal of cricket and the excitement the ODI format offers. The World Cup also broke multiple broadcast and digital viewership records, further showcasing the global celebration of the sport.
