Kageri Says There is No Need for Speaker’s Approval for Giving Consent to CBI Probe
    Uncategorized

The former Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri strongly denies the allegations made by the Congress government in Karnataka that the previous BJP government erred in not consulting the Speaker before granting consent to the CBI for a probe into the alleged disproportionate assets case against Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Kageri states that granting consent for a CBI probe does not fall within the Speaker’s jurisdiction. He criticizes the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his government for dragging the Speaker’s post into an issue where it has no relevance. Kageri condemns the Cabinet’s decision as it undermines the dignity of the parliamentary system and brings shame to the state. He questions the timing of the decision, as chargesheets against Shivakumar were about to be filed by the CBI and courts. Kageri suggests that Siddaramaiah may be acting under pressure and urges him to resist succumbing to it.
