Discussions on the two bills related to Jammu and Kashmir were taken up for discussion in the Lok Sabha amid the ongoing Winter Session of the parliament. Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah reiterated that the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) belongs to the Indian territory. Shah stated that if former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had taken the right steps, PoK would have been part of India now. He highlighted the historic blunder of announcing a ceasefire when Indian forces were winning, leading to the creation of PoK. Shah also criticized taking the Kashmir issue to the United Nations as a blunder. He further discussed the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, emphasizing that they will grant justice to those deprived of their rights for the last 70 years. He explained that reservation for displaced people will provide them with a voice in the legislature. Amit Shah highlighted that if terrorism had been tackled without vote-bank politics, Kashmiri Pandits would not have been forced to leave the Kashmir Valley. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts towards the backward classes and mentioned that the bills seek to provide representation in the assembly for those who had to leave Kashmir due to terrorism. Shah criticized the opposition party Congress for obstructing the growth of backward classes.
