Adani Looks to Buy SP Group’s Gopalpur Ports; Vehicle Sales Reach a High; Japan Sees Potential in India

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, India’s biggest maritime company, is in advanced discussions to buy Gopalpur Ports, owned by Shapoorji Pallonji Group. The deal is estimated to be valued at ₹1,100-1,200 crore. This acquisition is part of Adani’s strategy to own significant facilities along both the eastern and western water margins.

In a positive sign for the automotive sector, vehicle registrations in India saw a substantial increase last month. According to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), retail sales rose 18% compared to the same month last year. With 2.85 million vehicles registered, November 2023 marked the highest level of vehicle sales, surpassing the previous record set in November 2022.

Masahiro Goto, global head of investment banking at Nomura, stated in an interview that Japanese companies consider India as a reliable long-term partner for manufacturing. Additionally, India is seen as a top consumer market by these companies.
