Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that Tata Electronics Pvt. Limited is planning to set up a plant in Assam involving a financial outlay of Rs. 40,000 crore for assembly and packaging of semiconductors. The State has already witnessed a robust industrial climate and has signed MoUs worth Rs. 10,000 crore with different business ventures in recent years. With the aim of promoting entrepreneurship and self-employment, the government has launched the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Assam Abhiyan, providing financial support and incentives to empower the youth. The government’s efforts to attract semiconductor units have led to the approval of the Assam Electronics (Semiconductor, etc.) Policy 2023 and productivity-linked incentives for the industry. The plant’s establishment is expected to require educated and skilled human resources, and the government has partnered with Tata Group to ensure the education and skilling of the state’s youth.
