Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced that he will be donating his one-month salary to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to support the recovery efforts following the havoc caused by Cyclone Michaung. Stalin has also urged all Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to do the same. In addition, he has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting immediate interim relief funds of Rs 5,060 crores and a central team to assess the damages caused by the cyclone in Tamil Nadu.

The devastating cyclone made landfall earlier this month, resulting in heavy rains, strong winds, and extensive damage to infrastructure and homes. In response to the crisis, the Tamil Nadu IAS Officers’ Association has contributed a day’s salary of its members to the relief fund. The state government has deployed 9,000 officials from other districts for relief work, while efforts are underway to pump out stormwater from low-lying areas.

Amid the flood-like situation in Chennai, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has assured all possible help from the Central Government. The first instalment of the Central share to the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), amounting to Rs 450 crores, has already been released.

The donation by CM MK Stalin and the appeal to other politicians to contribute funds highlight the collective effort being made to support the affected people and expedite the recovery process. The central government’s assistance and the deployment of officials from other districts further demonstrate the commitment to providing relief and restoring normalcy in Tamil Nadu. The devastating impact of Cyclone Michaung emphasizes the need for continuous support and collaboration to rebuild the affected areas and ensure the well-being of the affected communities.
