The World Health Organization (WHO) recently led missions to struggling hospitals in northern Gaza, witnessing growing desperation and starvation among the population. At the devastated Al-Shifa hospital, once Gaza’s most advanced medical facility, the UN health agency and its partners delivered aid, including fuel, to help revive vital services. The hospital is currently only able to provide basic first aid due to relentless hostilities and a massive number of wounded patients. The dire situation at Al-Shifa reflects the nightmare faced by the entire population of Gaza, with drastic shortages of medicines, food, power, water, and safety. Crowded surgery wards, overflowing with patients, and desperate people searching for food aid illustrate the desperate conditions. The WHO chief warned that this situation is endangering the lives of the population and called for a ceasefire and sustained humanitarian access to provide much-needed aid to the region.
