A tripartite peace agreement between the Centre, Assam government, and the pro-talks faction of Ulfa is likely to be signed by the year-end, according to Ulfa general secretary Anup Chetia. Chetia and Ulfa “foreign secretary” Sasadhar Choudhury arrived in Delhi on Monday and are expected to meet the Centre’s interlocutor, AK Mishra, on Tuesday. They are also likely to meet home minister Amit Shah before the signing of the accord.

A couple of weeks ago, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had mentioned that the peace pact is likely to be signed this year-end or by January. He stated that the proposed pact is being given final touches, which will incorporate political, economic, and cultural safeguards as well as land rights demands made by Ulfa.
