The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has revealed its much-awaited 2024 Cosmic Calendar, showcasing the top space missions planned for the next few years. Named as the ‘2024 Vision’, the calendar highlights ISRO’s ambitious projects to explore the Moon, Sun, Mars, Venus, and the cosmos. Here is a glimpse of the most anticipated missions that India’s space agency is gearing up for in 2024.
1. Chandrayaan-3: Following the success of Chandrayaan-2, the ISRO is preparing for the launch of Chandrayaan-3. This mission aims to land on the Moon’s south pole and conduct further studies on the lunar surface.
2. Aditya L1: Scheduled for January 6, 2024, Aditya L1 is a spacecraft designed to study the Sun. It will reach Lagrange Point 1, a position between the Sun and Earth, to comprehensively analyze solar particles.
3. Mangalyaan 2: The successor to Mangalyaan 1, MOM-2, is set to launch in 2024. It will have an upgraded payload to intensify scientific exploration of Mars and gather more data about the planet’s atmosphere and geology.
4. XPoSat: ISRO’s X-ray Polarimeter Satellite, XPoSat, is scheduled to launch on January 1, 2024. Its primary objective is to study Black holes and various dynamics of bright astronomical X-ray sources.
5. INSAT-3DS: Scheduled for January 2024, INSAT-3DS is a meteorological satellite that will significantly contribute to weather monitoring and forecasting in India.
6. NISAR Mission: NISAR is a joint Earth observation mission by NASA and ISRO. It aims to study changes on Earth’s surface, including natural hazards and geological phenomena.
7. Shukrayaan-1: ISRO’s Venus Orbiter Mission, Shukrayaan-1, will explore Venus’s surface and atmosphere to study its volcanic and geological activities.
These missions reflect ISRO’s efforts to push the boundaries of space exploration and expand humanity’s understanding of the universe. With these ambitious projects, ISRO is set to make significant contributions to the global scientific community.
