Old SCERT building could be used by pupils till April

Panaji: Following the protest by parents of Sanjay school students, the centre’s chairman Sidharth Kunkalienker said as a short-term solution, the students could shift back to the old SCERT building till April, as it leaks during the monsoon. ‘We can ask the chief minister and the state commissioner for persons with disabilities to reconsider the notice asking us to vacate the building. We will speak to both to get permission,’ he said. Asked about the stability of the building, Kunkalienker said he hadn’t read the stability report and that the building is still being occupied by an office. When told to vacate the old SCERT building, priority was given to relocate the Class XI and XII students, he stated. Another solution will be to shift the vocational students to the cyclone shelter in Porvorim, the centre’s chairman said. ‘We were hopeful of getting the cyclone shelter, but somehow we are not getting possession,’ he said. The education department will request PWD to reevaluate the old SCERT building, Kunkalienker said. ‘It cannot happen overnight. It’s a process. The parents of the students were misled into holding the protest,’ he said.
