Delays Expected as 20 Trains Affected by Fog in India

According to railways officials in the national capital, at least 20 trains are expected to be delayed due to fog in several parts of the country. This has caused inconvenience to passengers, with several trains running late. The Northern Railways has reported delays for trains like Katihar-Amritsar Express, Khajuarao-Kurukshetra Express, Jammutawi-Ajmer Express, and Ajmer-Katra Pooja Express. Other trains, such as the Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, Ambedkarnagar-Katra Express, and Chennai-New Delhi GT are also likely to arrive two hours late. The Manikpur-Nizamuddin Express is delayed by four hours. In addition to these, at least 12 other trains are running around 1-1.30 hours late. These include Kanpur-New Delhi Shramshakti, Saharsa-New Delhi Vaishali Express, Bangalore-Nizamuddin, Bhubaneswar-New Delhi RajdhExpress, Prayagraj-New Delhi Express, Rajendranagar-New Delhi Express, Muzaffarpur-Anand Vihar Express, Amritsar-Mumbai Express, Hyderabad-New Delhi Express, and Chennai-New Delhi GT.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported shallow to moderate fog in isolated pockets over Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Visibility recorded has been below 500 meters in several parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The IMD has also stated that very dense fog is observed over isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar. Dense fog is expected over isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh.

Given the prevailing weather conditions in Chandigarh, no classes, in physical mode, will be conducted up to class 8 in any government, government-aided, or recognized private schools of UT Chandigarh for the next six days, from January 8, 2024, to January 13, 2024. The Central Pollution Control Board has reported that the air quality in the national capital continues to be in the very poor category, with the overall Air Quality Index recorded above 300. Earlier in the day, a layer of fog was seen across AIIMS and Barapullah Flyover areas in Delhi.
