The Supreme Court’s recent judgment to quash the Gujarat government’s decision to grant remission to 11 rape convicts in the Bilkis Bano case has sparked criticism from Congress and other opposition parties. Congress party president Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi, condemned the BJP for protecting the rapists and accused the party of having an anti-women stance. Rahul Gandhi warned that prioritizing electoral gains over justice could be dangerous for the democratic system. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee welcomed the judgment and demanded a public apology from the BJP for supporting rapists and murderers. NCP chief Sharad Pawar also criticized the BJP for shielding those who commit atrocities against women. Congress alleged that BJP has a history of harboring leaders with anti-women credentials.
