South Alabama head coach Kane Wommack is reportedly making the move to the University of Alabama to serve as the defensive coordinator under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. Wommack, 36, leaves South Alabama after a successful three-season tenure where he transformed the program into a competitive force in the Sun Belt conference. Under Wommack’s leadership, the team achieved a remarkable 10-3 record, including a dominant 59-10 win in their first-ever bowl victory in program history.

One of the standout features of the Jaguars’ success was their strong defensive performance, allowing just 21 points per game and limiting opposing quarterbacks to less than 60% completion. South Alabama’s athletic director, Joel Erdmann, expressed gratitude for Wommack’s contributions and wished him and his wife the best.

Wommack’s coaching prowess extends beyond his time at South Alabama. He and Kalen DeBoer have previously worked together at Indiana, where Wommack served as the defensive coordinator and contributed to the team’s eight-win season. Now, with DeBoer as the new head coach of the University of Alabama, Wommack will bring his defensive expertise to the Crimson Tide.

Kalen DeBoer wasted no time in assembling his coaching staff, securing the services of both offensive and defensive coordinators in a short span. Ryan Grubb, the former offensive coordinator at Washington, will reportedly join DeBoer in Tuscaloosa to lead the Crimson Tide’s offense. Grubb has been DeBoer’s offensive coordinator for the past four seasons at Washington and Fresno State.

With Wommack and Grubb joining the coaching staff, the University of Alabama football program looks poised to build on its storied legacy under the leadership of Kalen DeBoer, who recently took over as head coach from the legendary Nick Saban.
