TCS to Train Over 500,000 Software Engineers on Generative AI

India’s largest IT services company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has announced plans to train its entire staff of over 500,000 software engineers on Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI). Siva Ganesan, head of TCS’ newly established ‘AI.Cloud’ unit, acknowledges the immense potential of Gen AI to revolutionize various industries. TCS has already disclosed its engagement in 250 Gen AI powered projects and is leveraging the intelligence gleaned from Gen AI to expedite its ongoing work for clients. Ganesan talks about the transformative potential of Gen AI and its ability to supplement assets and augment growth. TCS is taking a proactive approach to prepare for the future of AI by investing in two key areas: workforce training and strategic partnerships. The company aims to upskill its employees and has already trained over 150,000 in Gen AI skills in the last seven months. However, Ganesan highlights the complexities involved in enterprise-grade Gen AI solutions, emphasizing the need for rigorous security measures, data confidentiality, and robust architecture. While consumer-grade AI tools like ChatGPT are readily available, Ganesan points out the complexities of implementing and generating value from enterprise-grade Gen AI solutions. TCS’ chief technology officer, Harrick Vin, expresses confidence in creating one of the world’s largest AI-ready workforces.
