A 13-year-old boy and two other spectators lost their lives during Jallikattu events in Tamil Nadu. The incidents occurred as part of the extended Pongal celebrations in the state. At the Manjuvirattu arena in Siravayal, Sivaganga, the teenager and a man in his 30s were fatally attacked while watching bulls being released. The bulls then went on to charge at the rest of the crowd, causing panic and injuries to over 100 people. In another incident in Eliyarpathi, Madurai, a 22-year-old man was gored by a Jallikattu bull. The bull’s owner was subsequently booked for culpable homicide, based on a complaint by the victim’s father. Jallikattu is a traditional bull-taming sport in Tamil Nadu.
