Two BSF personnel were honoured for gallantry on the eve of Republic Day. Additionally, UP Police’s current DG (law and order), Prashant Kumar, famous for his encounters, was also recognized. The medals announced included gallantry medals, President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, and Medal for Meritorious Service. CRPF received the highest number of medals, followed by J&K Police and UP Police. The awards also recognized the brave actions in Left Wing Extremism-affected areas and terrorism-hit J&K. Delhi Police’s ASI Shambhu Dayal Meena, who lost his life while confronting a snatcher, was among the awardees. Overall, CRPF, J&K Police, and UP Police received the highest number of police medals. The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service was awarded to personnel from the police, fire service, civil defence, and home guard service. The Medal for Meritorious Service recognized the contributions of personnel from police, fire services, civil defence, home guard services, and correctional services.
