Army doctor Captain Anshuman Singh, who courageously sacrificed his life while rescuing others during a fire tragedy near Siachen Glacier in July last year, is among the six soldiers to be awarded the prestigious Kirti Chakra on the occasion of Republic Day. The Kirti Chakra is the country’s second highest medal for gallantry during peacetime. The two other awardees of the Kirti Chakra are Havildar Abdul Majid (Para-Special Forces) and Sepoy Pawan Kumar (Rashtriya Rifles), both of whom displayed exemplary bravery during several operations in J&K.
In addition to the Kirti Chakra awardees, there are also 16 recipients of the Shaurya Chakra. This includes Major Maneo Francis PF (Para-Special Forces), Major Amandeep Jakhar (Sikh Regiment), Captain M V Pranjal (Rashtriya Rifles – awarded posthumously), Captain Akshat Upadhyay (Jat Regiment), Naib Subedar Baria Sanjay Kumar Bhamar Sinh (Mahar Regiment), Havildar Sanjay Kumar (Assam Rifles), Rifleman Alok Rao (Assam Rifles – awarded posthumously), and civilian Parshotam Kumar, associated with Rashtriya Rifles.
The Navy’s Lieutenant Bimal Ranjan Behera, Wing Commander Shailesh Singh, and Flight Lieutenant Hrishikesh Jayan Karuthedath from the Indian Air Force are also among the recipients of these honors. Additionally, a CRPF assistant commandant, Bibhor Kumar Singh, and four J&K Police officials, deputy superintendent Mohan Lal, sub-inspector Faroz Ahmad Dar, assistant sub-inspector Amit Raina, and constable Varun Singh, have been awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
These awards recognize the extraordinary bravery exhibited by these individuals in the line of duty, highlighting their exceptional contributions to the nation’s security.
